This year, at the Mansfield Bottle Show, I was happy to acquire the mortar and pestle to complete my collection of three pieces. I already owned the conical and the show globe. These porcelain display units were made by Owen-Illinois, the world’s largest manufacturer of laboratory and pharmacy glassware. The three pieces are non-functional, but were originally given away as promotions to pharmacy graduates and incentives for extremely large retail orders. In my 40-year career as a retail pharmacist, I never received one professionally.
